Hands-free cell phones have little safety benefit - Jun. 9, 2005
This is one of those reports that you have got to say is intuitively obvious. We all know that driver distraction of any kind is the problem, not just evil cell phones. In the first place, why does the govenment feel it has to come into our cockpit to keep us from hurting ourselves? Leave us alone! But for gosh sake, if they do come in, please use LOGIC! Have you seen some of those hands-free rigs for cell phones? they have snakey wires, clips, velcro, magnetic holders, each piece ready to trigger a chaotic interlude reminiscent of W.C. Fields tangling with croquet wires. I bet the average driver controlls things pretty well with one hand, and might do with some encouragement to lessen these habits, but let's not push for another wave of intrusive do-good laws that would restrict us all, and may be based on governmental logic like the thinking that this cell phone issue shows

Music from another era
Some of the songs (in mp3 format) posted at this  Jukebox  website are familiar, but most of the tunes are lost and long-forgotten. I try to imagine the innocence of a culture that embraced songs entitled

 As A Porcupine Pines For Its Pork
 O'Brien is Tryin' to Learn to Talk Hawaiian
 He'd Have to Get Under - Get Out and Get Under (to Fix Up His Automobile)

One of my favorites is
 Make That Trombone Laugh

And of course, due to the recent banana cover sighting, I must include
 Yes! We Have No Bananas

Yes we have no banana holders
Leah sent me this image by email with this message:

"I saw this collection of banana protectors in Vancouver and remembered
that you had blogged about them!"

I think they are wild and crazy! Here we have one fruit that has succsessfully provided its own package, and we have to package them. Oh me oh my. They are pretty colorful and festive, though. Where is Carmen Miranda when we need her? Or was it Carmen SanDiego? (Electra?)

=========================================
As my first test of bloging by email, I am posting this that way.
