A new way to play "pig"
Remember the game "pig" that we used to play at the dinner table? Here's a coffee mug that will really bring back those fun memories!

Cartoon tunes
I somehow landed on the site of an obsessed collector of Cartoon theme songs

They are all nicely alphabetized and lined up for your browsing.

Here is the Looney Tunes page.

'tis a puzzlement
Now this is cool!
Here is a link to a quartet, puzzle style.
Here is a link to a colorful mural, puzzle style.
Here is the Talcottville school - a 48 piece toughie.

At least for now, this is a free signup service where you can upload your own albums and make puzzles out of them either for links or to integrate into a web site.

A few wordy type things
A few links for the frustrated teacher in all of us:
* http://www.verbix.com/webverbix/ Conjugate on line! (not an adult site ¦;¬)
* http://www.painintheenglish.com/default.asp For those of us who like to be nitpickers of misuse and misunderstaning of the elements of English use.
* http://linguisticlife.blogspot.com/ Here is one for Leah, blogged by a linguistics grad student who has been to Japan.

Tap Tap Box
I have no idea how this works, but I think it would be great fun at parties. Knock on the box in some rhythm, and the box echos your pattern back to you with its knocker. Tap Tab Box

Cheaper, non-ms laptop?
Laptops have been overpriced since they appeared. Of course they are priced, like all goods, at the price people were willing to pay. Well things are changing as the market progresses, and here is a chink in the armor maybe.

Soon to appear at Wall-Mart and Amazon, here is a decent laptop (ie AMD1800+, 40gb hd,) for $500, 256K, CD; and add DVD and wireless at a $600 point. Notably NO MS windows, but linux and Open Office Suite. Quite workable for most users. Here is an article about the "Linare".

Ken Burns Effect
In an attempt to keep up on my cultural literacy, I note a new example of technology inserting itself into the commonly understood language. Now we have "The Ken Burns Effect".

Ken Burns, in his wonderful documentary and historical video series, incuding Jazz, The Civil War, Baseball, and more, did not invent, but used, fine-tuned and established a technique that has been branded with his name in the graphics, video, film, and presentation world. A flat and regular photograph is made to seem like a moving picture. Through the use of panning and zooming, the mind and eyes are led in, out and around a photo, cleverly telling a story and appearing fluid enough to be a movie.

The proof of the word's universal use and understanding is that the effect appears right on the drop menus of all the graphic world's software, automating or enabling the "Ken Burns Effect"
