~The Catch-All Drawer~

What?
I had to toss this in the catch-all drawer because it is so off-beat funny and sort of weird, showing the extent of trivial uses to which we are putting these marvelous magical computers that we take for granted. Ha?

Robert J. Lang Origami
This guy does some serious origami! Robert J. Lang Origami

I also like the little folding paper tabs the site uses for navigation -- they fit so well with the origami.

Top 100 Gadgets of All Time
I know there are things to add to this list, and a few doubtful entries, but it is worth a look at this 5 page list of "The Top 100 Gadgets of All Time"

By the way, "gadgets" is one of those words that always stops me, thinking I have misspelled it. Do you put a "d" in it? Sort of like pronouncing the word "pecan" or the word "decal" I sort of envy the people, even if they do it wrong, are sure enough of their own spelling or pronunciation to just go and spell or say it without the moment or spell of doubt getting in the way.

Etch-a-Sketch revisited
I guess it might be because I am so hopeless on one of these that this guy is so unbelievable with his etch art.

I previously blogged this working Etch-A-Sketch if you are inspired to try.

Digital Kissing?
Kinda creepy, having digital bits running all over your skin.
Overheard: "No, really, Dad, we were only swapping files."
Here is the article introducing digital kissing.

Limerick
To get a little lighter, I love this limerick:

There once was a man from Peru
Whose limerick stopped at line two.

Snake Oil
If you want to see the slime on the internet, sometimes it is shamelessly shouted right at you as if truth does not matter.
I saw an ad for "IMusicsearch" on a fairly respectable page, and went to it because it said Free Music Downloads. - Just checking. I wasn't born yesterday. I knew it wasn't free, but checked it anyway. All of this is presented on the page:
*Music - Free Unlimited Downloads.
*Download Unlimited Free MP3 Music, Movies and Games.
*Unlimited Free Music Downloads From All Your Favorite Artists! - Over 12 *Billion Songs at Your Fingertips. Highest Quality CD Sound.
*Burn Unlimited CDs for Free
*Download Free MP3 Music, DVD Movies & Software right to your PC.
*No Download Fees, All Favorite Artists - Legal
*Largest Selection of FREE Music & Movies. All Your Favorite Artists *Guaranteed. 100% Safe - No Download, Per Song or Monthly Fees. FREE Unlimited MP3 Music Downloads Over 12 Billion Files ! *Fast Downloads - 150% Faster than Kazaa Gold
*Mix and Burn Your Own CD's to Play in your Car or Home Stereo.

Then the next page tells you how much you have to pay to get this Free service!
The liars!

Am I missing something? If indeed they offer a great service for a fee, what is the harm in pitching it that way? Why would anybody sign up when they lie to you up front?
This kind of thing gives the web a bad name. I don't believe in governmental controls to get rid of this, but some of these people should be prosecuted to insure truth in advertising. Hopefully honest sellers will attract more customers than the liars, but it hasn't worked that way so far.
